Visual Learning Systems (VLS) is pleased to announce the Feature Analystâ Grant Program for Higher Education. Feature Analyst is the revolutionary new software designed to easily convert imagery into maps. The Feature Analyst Grant Program represents a potential $10 million (U.S.) software-donation by VLS to support basic and applied research in extracting useful information from earth imagery. VLS will provide a site-wide license of Feature Analyst for ArcGIS and/or ERDAS IMAGINEâ to institutes that qualify and are accepted into the grant program. A point-of-contact at each successful university will receive training, and VLS has conveniently set two training sessions at San Diego State University, one on July 7th and one on July 11th, book-ending the ESRI User Conference in San Diego.

Visual Learning Systems, Inc. (VLS) provides software and solutions for the Defense and Intelligence, Homeland Security, Environmental, Educational, and Local Government GIS markets. Feature Analyst 3.2 for ArcGIS, ArcView and ERDAS IMAGINE includes advanced feature extraction and image classification techniques developed by VLS through research with NASA and the US Department of Defense. Organizations such as the US Department of Defense and the US Forest Service recently conducted analyses of using Feature Analyst in operations.
Grants are made to qualified colleges, universities, and technical institutions (as determined by VLS’s sole discretion). VLS estimates each grant to have an approximate commercial software value of $500,000. VLS will donate to successful grantees the following to support research and education:

  • A site-wide license (up to 50 licenses each) of Feature Analyst Professional for ArcGIS and/or ERDAS IMAGINEâ good thru July 1, 2005
  • E-mail, fax, and telephone technical support from VLS thru July 1, 2005
  • Software updates thru July 1, 2005
