Event to celebrate GIS

Southern Leyte, Philippines: In its efforts to promoting awareness on the use of Geographic Information System (GIS), Southern Leyte city’s local government, together with the University of the Philippines Visayas Tacloban College-Regional Environmental Information System (UPVTC-REIS), celebrated the international GIS Day today.

The celebration was also joined by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH – Environment and Rural Development (EnRD) and Decentralization (DP) Programs. GIS Day is an annual global event held every November showcasing technology’s real time applications which can create positive impacts in society.

UPVTC-REIS representatives say Southern Leyte is positive in using GIS as it compliments their goal of intensifying environmental awareness by promoting disaster prevention and preparedness.
