European generalisation project boosted by collaboration in UK and Germany

Laser-Scan of UK has been involved in European generalisation projects to improve business efficiencies at several state mapping agencies in Germany. This project has been aided significantly by the involvement of a German partner organisation called GEFAS.

The project is to develop a standard software module based on Laser-Scan’s LAMPS2 for model generalisation. The generalisation starts with the base data model and derives a coarser digital landscape model (DLM50). Included in the project is the development of transfer facilities using the existing EDBS Format (Einheitliche Datenbankschnittstelle).

Laser-Scan and GEFAS have been working together since the beginning of the project in 2002. GEFAS developed the EDBS plug in that is used to import EDBS data; the export facility was added specifically for Laser-Scan. GEFAS and Laser-Scan have jointly improved the EDBS plug in to enable spline interpolation.
