ESRI, the world’s leading provider of geographic information system (GIS) software, has entered into an agreement with SignalSoft to integrate ESRI’s geodetic conversion source code library into SignalSoft’s Location Manager product, a standards-compliant location gateway for mobile operators worldwide to deploy either emergency or commercial location-based services. Location Manager can be configured as a Mobile Positioning Center (MPC) for ANSI-41 networks or as a Gateway Mobile Location Centre (GMLC) for GSM networks. Since location-based services applications typically serve local areas, applications often require non-World Geodetic System 1984 (WGS 84) conventions in order to establish the location of a mobile device. ESRI’s geodetic conversion source code library is the engine behind the scenes that enables such capabilities.
