ESRI announced that it is a sponsor of the Wireless LBS Challenge presented by Navigation Technologies and SiRF Technology. As a sponsor, ESRI is offering application developer contest registrants a free six-month trial of ArcWeb for Developers, ESRI’s Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP)/XML mapping Web service. Through this contest, Navigation Technologies and SiRF Technology challenge application developers to build a location-based services (LBS) application that utilize cell phones or wireless handheld devices using global positioning satellite (GPS) technology and NAVTECH map data. Application developers accepted to the Wireless LBS Challenge will have the option to use ArcWeb for Developers with NAVTECH Maps throughout the six-month course of the contest. ArcWeb for Developers, a standards-based GIS Web service, offers any application developer an easy way to include addresses, maps, routes, and points of interest into their location-based applications without having to host the data or software.
