Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: Esri honoured Saudi Arabia-based Etihad Etisalat (Mobily), a telecom company, with an excellence award in GIS implementation. The telecom company used GIS technology in optical fiber communications network across the country. Esri presented this award for the first time for the telecom sector in Saudi Arabia.
Khalid Al-Moammar, Chief Executive for Operations at Mobily, received the award from Abdulaziz Al-Tammamy, president of Saudi Arabia’s Esri dealer Information Systems company.
Al-Tammamy said, “We strive to always apply world’s latest technologies in all areas of communications to maintain the best level in providing services. This award reflects Mobily’s keenness to apply modern technology in completing its projects in cooperation with other related organizations.”
GIS application is one of the most important tools of communication through optical fiber cables for both voice calls and data transfer in Saudi Arabia. The great importance of this system will emerge upon starting of construction projects and maintenance of underground paths for telecoms, electricity, water and other public utilities to avoid disrupting any vital service to other service sectors.
