Earth Resource Mapping (ERM), which provides enterprise geospatial imagery solutions, has joined the Open GIS Consortium, Inc., (OGC). The OGC is a non-profit, international, voluntary consensus standards organization that is leading the development of standards for geospatial and location based services.
To enable enterprises to maximize the use of their imagery assets, ERM encourages use of standard formats, including the ISO standard JPEG 2000 format and the popular ECW format, through the use of its popular ECW JPEG 2000 SDK.
ERM and other leaders in JPEG2000 technology recently announced their endorsement of a common way to use GML schema for storing geo-location information for imagery, within the JPEG2000 format. This definition is an open definition and uses the OGC GML standard inside JPEG2000 image files. The definition has been submitted to the JPEG 2000 ISO working group.
