Dutch national mapping agency selects ESRI’s ArcGIS

ESRI has recently announced that after an intensive selection process its Dutch distributor, ESRI Nederland B.V., has been awarded a contract to provide the Dutch National Mapping Agency (Topografische Dienst Kadaster) with a new, ArcGIS based production environment. The choice was made after a careful evaluation of a range of functional and technical requirements.

The system will be used to produce a new 1:10,000 scale topographic database (TOP10NL), which is the object-oriented successor to TOP10vector, the current database. TOP10NL will be used in the development of various GIS applications and paper map production.

ArcGIS software provides an optimum integrated production environment to support the capabilities necessary in producing the TOP10NL, including disconnected editing, optimized transaction modeling, and the Geodatabase Model, a sophisticated object model of intelligent features, rules, topology and relationships. This functionality matches the workflow philosophy of the Topografische Dienst Kadaster’s new production environment team. The new GIS software includes: ArcEditor for creation and editing, both in the office and in the field, and ArcSDE, which manages the spatial data within the Oracle database.
