Dubai, UAE: Google Maps included information on Dubai’s integrated mass transport network comprising the Metro, public buses, water bus and water taxi. This update will enable users of various types of public transport in Dubai Emirate to plan their daily travels in a smooth and easy manner at any time they wish, through the Google Maps’ portal (www.maps.google.com) downloadable on their computers or smart phones.
In 2009, the Roads and Transport Corporation (RTA) had signed a joint agreement with Google Inc (Middle East) whereby the information relating to public transport by buses in Dubai Emirate was uploaded on Google Maps. This made Dubai the first city in the Middle East and North Africa to upload its bus information on Google Maps and ranked it among more than 50 global cities using this technology such as London, Paris, New York, Zurich and other cities with advanced transportation systems across the globe.
“The information is made available for users round the clock so that residents, visitors and tourists of Dubai Emirate can now plan in advance their daily travels through the RTA’s Journey Planner (Wojhati) as per the agreement made between the RTA and Google Inc.,” said the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the RTA Corporate Technical Support Services Sector, Abdullah Al Madani.
The routes of the proposed journey will be displayed on the website with full details, schedules and fare, depending on the point of origin, destination and timing of the journey.
“This service enables residents and visitors alike to enquire about the schedules and routes of different journeys and have them displayed in 3-D mode, thus rendering Dubai one of the first among global cities to use this technology amongst top cities with advanced transport systems worldwide, and at the same time epitomising RTA’s vision of providing safe and smooth transport for all,” added Madani.
