Dubai Municipality to apply open geospatial standards

Dubai: The GIS Department at Dubai Municipality recently organised a joint session for the project to apply the open geospatial standards of GIS as per ISO TC/211 & OGC in the presence of representatives of the strategic partners of this project from Dubai Police, DEWA, RTA, Dubai Land Department, Etisalat and representatives of the relevant departments of the Municipality.

The organisation of this meeting by Dubai Municipality comes as the next step of evolution, to provide integrated geographic information of the Emirate of Dubai and to enable everyone to benefit from it in different areas such as the environment, health, economy, planning, public services etc. through current level of Information& Communication Technology including geospatial applications and interactive maps.

At the beginning of the meeting Abdul Hakim Malik, Director of GIS Department, welcomed the esteemed attendees and highly valued their time and interest in attending such meetings, which are one of the most effective channels to communicate with partners to assure cooperation and collaboration with commitment.

Ron Lake, the expert from Galdos Systems, Canada, which executes the project, explained the importance of applying Open Geospatial Standards in the field of GIS to ensure precise communication and data sharing among the beneficiaries transparently and securely.
