Dubai completes Air Thermal Survey Project

UAE: Dubai Municipality Environment Department has recently completed Dubai Aerial Thermal Survey Project in collaboration with the GIS Department and a Danish company, COWI.

The project was done to determine the level of temperature variation and the amount of greenhouse gas emissions in different urban areas, which covered 600 square kilometres of the Emirate’s area. 30,000 aerial thermal photographs were taken in order to create a thermal map for the emirate.

Painting house roofs in white to reflect the sunrays, planting trees around buildings and industrial establishments, in addition to cooling sidewalks are some of the methods that may be implemented to reduce temperature in the emirate.
