DigitalGlobe’s FirstLook to train its eyes on Ukraine

US: As Ukrainian authorities maintain that the Malaysia Airlines jet carrying 295 people was shot down by separatists, reports have emerged that US-based satellite imagery giant DigitalGlobe is ‘training its eyes in the sky on Ukraine’.

“We are definitely working on this through the company’s service called FirstLook,” Alex Dunmire, DigitalGlobe’s Tampa-based senior director of analytical services told media.

FirstLook is an online subscription service for emergency management providing web-based access to pre- and post-event imagery of world disasters. This up-to-the-minute, high-resolution satellite imagery provides the essential information required by the agencies for emergency planning, risk assessment, monitoring of staging areas and crisis response, damage assessment, and recovery.
