US: Jill Smith will step down next year as CEO and chairperson of DigitalGlobe. DigitalGlobe, in a regulatory filing, said Smith elected not to renew her employment agreement scheduled to expire on September 1, 2011.
However, she has agreed to remain in her position as chairperson and CEO until her successor is appointed. DigitalGlobe has already hired an executive search firm to look for a successor.
Since Smith took over in 2005, the company has launched two satellites and begun development of a new one. DigitalGlobe went public on the New York Stock Exchange in June 2009.
Prior to DigitalGlobe, Smith worked with Gomez Inc and eDial. She lives in Boston. Her resignation announcement comes just days after DigitalGlobe won about USD 3.6 billion contract from the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency.
