The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is now planning to identify sites where hoardings can be put up safely. And to assist them is a special digital map prepared by the Digital Remote Sensing Agency in Hyderabad. The MCD’s RP cell has recently concluded a three-month long drive, removing dangerous hoardings and vinyl signs all over the city. According to reports more than 1,500 such unauthorised signs have been removed. The digital map will be used by officials to identify sites where hoardings can be safely put up. Most of the sites which will be approved for hoardings will probably be places where traffic is forced to slow down, such as T-junctions or stop lights. The map will be used in conjunction with information received from all zonal Deputy Commissioners.
