Chandigarh, India, 10 January 2007 – The Department of Information Technology has decided to digitise the maps of Chandigarh. The new digitised maps will also include the Phase-III sectors which are sectors 48 to 56, Modern Housing Complex, Manimajra, Sector 38 West etc.
A Geographical Information System (GIS) will be prepared on the Estate Office and the soft copy map along with the database will be hosted on the National Informatics Centre (NIC) Headquarters server at New Delhi, which will be further published on web portal of Chandigarh Administration.
Residents of Chandigarh or any other person within or outside the country can access the features on the map of Chandigarh and know about the property details as per the Sampada data of every unit (residential, commercial or industrial) and its geographical location. To start with, only the information relating to the Estate Office will be put on the map.
Later, the information of the public interest, relating to various departments of Chandigarh Administration and various business activities across the city, will be also be put on the map. This work shall be done by Centre for Computational Engineering, Punjab Engineering College, Sector 12, Chandigarh and shall be completed within 4 months.
