Delhi seismic hazard zonation map in final stages

The Delhi seismic hazards micro-zonation map has been prepared in collaboration with Department of Geology, Delhi University, Indian Meteorological Department, Geological Survey of India, Indian Institute of Technology (Delhi), Earthquake Research Centre, Central Road Research Institute and the map is likely crucial role in future planning of Delhi. The map will be presented to the Indian Union HRD ministry soon. The map is still in the final stages of prepsration process and will be soon unveiled and presented to the ministry. The map will help construction authorities to build a structure, which are safe and quake resistant. The gravity of the quake will be defined for each zone and accordingly structures may be planned that can bear a particular intensity of earthquakes. The process of designing this map started after the devastating Bhuj earthquake in India on 26 January 2001. All the agencies preparing the map have been working in collaboration of the disaster mitigation unit constituted by Union HRD Ministry in India.
