Delhi makes GPS compulsory for public vehicles

India: Starting June 1, the country’s capital has made it mandatory for all public transport vehicles to be equipped with GPS devices. The transport department has also asserted that the fitness certificate of a public vehicle will be issued only after ensuring that it is fitted with GPS. A senior official has reportedly said, "The decision to make it mandatory for all public vehicles to have GPS was taken keeping in view the security and safety of commuters, especially women."
