India: The Delhi traffic police have identified as many as 79 killer spots in the capital that witness the maximum number of fatal road accidents and chalked out certain measures that can help bring down the toll. The police identified these spots through a GIS-based survey.
“Through GIS mapping, we identified the exact locations on particular accident-prone stretches that witness many mishaps and fatalities. We have identified the possible reasons for the accidents and are preparing an action plan to check them,” said Anil Shukla, additional commissioner of police (traffic).
During the survey, traffic police analysed every major accident that took place during the last year and plotted them on GIS map to ascertain the actual reasons for their occurrence.
