Technology company Dalsa Corp. in Canada said recently that it has won a $2.1-million order to make image sensors that will be used to develop a space-based remote sensing system. The sensors will be delivered in the first half of next year. The chips will be the eyes of a sophisticated imaging system being developed by an unnamed international company, Dalsa said. Remote Sensing is often used to monitor crops, compare urban and rural land use, track icebergs, detect oil spills, and make maps and nautical charts.
