CR presents two free geospatial workshops

The College of the Redwoods’ Environmental Training Center in conjunction with California Community Colleges Geographic Information Systems Initiative are presenting two free geospatial workshops.

The first workshop, an Overview of Geospatial Technologies, will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This introductory workshop will provide an overview of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Remote Sensing technologies and their application to may fields, such as natural resource management, homeland security, emergency management, marketing and real estate. Introductory level, hands-on exercises will include Web Mapping, ESRI’s ArcGIS 9.3 and GPS.

The second workshop, Geospatial Technologies for Environmental Management and Emergency Response, will be held on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 15 and 16, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This workshop is targeted for emergency management and environmental professionals who are new to, or have little experience with GIS. The emphasis is on GIS, with some integration of remote sensing and GPS, approximately 40 percent lecture/demonstration and 60 percent hands-on using ArcGIS 9.3 software. Workbooks will be provided.
