England: Nottinghamshire Police Department has successfully completed a three-month pilot project using GPS tags to monitor offenders. The department now plans to track offender movement with reference to crime pattern maps.
Police department will overlay offender movements with crime pattern maps to know their real-time location. This will enable the cops to know whether a particular offender was present at the crime scene or not. The police department also hopes that the GPS tags would discourage offenders from indulging in more crimes. So far the process of being fitted with the GPS tag is voluntary.
