Austria: PROGIS, Microsoft, telemetry-providers, local and international consultants, and large IT firms are cooperating to model country-wide AGRO-ICT infrastructure solutions to boost rural development. The AGRO-ICT infrastructure consists of various geospatial technologies such as orthophoto, GIS, sensor network and other information systems. Apart from economical return on investment, the AGRO-ICT infrastructure also allows for an ecological return by integrating farmers with environmental and risk management processes. The solutions appeared as background information at the recently concluded AgriFuture Days conference held in Villach, Austria, which saw 120 participants from three continents discussing family farming, technology integration, stakeholder cooperation, and public and private partnerships.
