Mexico: Experts at the Institute of Civil Protection and Disaster Management in Merida, the capital city of the state of Yucatan in Mexico, have developed an advanced GIS system for the city. The system is aimed at using satellite imagery for disaster management.

The system is equipped with a database of historical seismic records and maps showing seismic activities. It allows experts to easily analyse seismic activities in earthquake-prone areas. The system also includes maps of other manmade or natural disasters. Experts hope that the new system will enable the city of Merida to be ready for natural disasters in future.
