China releases 2020 Report on Big Earth Data

The Chinese government released a report on “Big Earth Data in Support of the Sustainable Development Goals (2020)” on September 26, 2020 at a video-conference on Poverty Eradication and South-South Cooperation, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.

The report was produced by Prof. Huadong Guo, Honorary President of ISDE and his team in the “Big Earth Data Science Engineering Project (CASEarth Project)”, and showcases China’s efforts of using innovation-driven technologies to implement the 2030 Agenda, and in particular, the prospect of utilizing Big Earth Data for monitoring and evaluating the implementation of SDGs.

In addition, on Sept. 22, President of China, Xi Jinping announced at the 75th UN General Assembly that China will set up an International Research Center of Big Data for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to facilitate the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda. This Center is based on the CASEarth project led by Prof. Guo.
