Cadcorp announces PostGIS support in Cadcorp SIS V6.1

Cadcorp announced that PostGIS support has been made available in Cadcorp SIS V6.1. This is the first implementation of PostGIS by a GIS vendor.

PostGIS was developed by Canadian firm Refractions Research Inc., as a research project in open source spatial database technology. PostGIS is Open Source software and adds support for geographic objects to the PostgreSQL object-relational database. In effect, PostGIS “spatially enables” the PostgreSQL server, allowing it to be used as a backend spatial database for GIS, much like Oracle’s Spatial extension. PostGIS follows the OGC Simple Features for SQL specification.
