Brunei: The former surveyor general of Brunei, Pg Hj Matusin Pg Hj Matasan has been awarded as a fellowship member of the Royal Institution Chartered Surveyors (RICS). The announcement was made by current Surveyor General, Hj Mohammed Jamil Hj Mohammed Ali, during the Land Surveying Basis for Development (UTAP) seminar, in Gadong, Brunei.
Pg Hj Matusin is also active in the international arena of geomatics, where he was the former president of ASEAN Federation of Land Surveying and Geomatics (FLAG), regularly representing Brunei in ASEAN FLAG Council meetings, said Hj Mohammed Jamil.
The UTAP Seminar was focused on the theme “Geomatic Innovations for National Development”. One of the presentations was on LiDAR Brunei Survey and Main Applications by Dr Pierre Belanger from Canada. According to Hj Mohammed Jamil, there are LiDAR projects in Southeast-Asia but not as big as Brunei.
Commenting on the presentations, Minister of Development Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi Hj Osman said the seminar concentrates more on various methodologies to maximise the value of data. He also highlighted the need for more people to benefit from using geospatial data in more applications.
