BKS Surveys Selects Intergraph to Support Expansion into European Digital Airborne Data Collection and Processing Market

HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Jan. 22, 2008 – BKS Surveys Ltd., a supplier of geographic information products and services, has purchased a complete Intergraph Z/I Imaging® DMC® Digital Mapping Camera airborne and ground processing system to support its continued growth and expansion in the acquisition of digital imagery and airborne LiDAR throughout Europe.

As well as adding a second survey aircraft, Coleraine, Northern Ireland-based BKS’ capacity will be increased by the Intergraph DMC’s ability to operate effectively in a wider range of light conditions and lower processing overheads compared with conventional systems. Lynn Neill, BKS managing director, said, “The 2008 flying season will mark the beginning of a new era for BKS. This purchase now means we possess the most modern remote sensing technology on the market. Improved image quality, geometric precision and quick processing turnaround will enable BKS to meet the increasing demand for both quality and speed.”

BKS Production Director Alan Campbell added, “The DMC is an important acquisition for BKS and completes our digital flowline from data acquisition to product creation. It will enable us to be competitive in European markets, as the productivity benefits will ensure the efficiencies are translated into competitively priced projects. Our technical team carried out an evaluation of all the major digital camera systems currently on the market and we concluded that the DMC and Intergraph best fulfilled our requirements in terms of capability, support and cost. This is an exciting development for BKS and we look forward to taking delivery of the camera later this month.”

As an existing user of Intergraph’s ImageStation photogrammetric system, BKS will realise efficiency gains from a seamless digital workflow spanning image data acquisition, office-based capture and processing systems and final product generation, supported by industry-leading integrated data processing, back-up and recovery capabilities.
