Open Spatial Australia has announced Barwon Water has selected its Munsys solutions that are based on Oracle Spatial and Radius Topology. Barwon Water works in the spatial data management domain in the Australian water industry. Barwon Water recently completed an exhaustive tender process for the procurement of a replacement corporate GIS solution. The final technical evaluation included a four-day bench test which put software and suppliers to the test in front of a panel of GIS user representatives, IT specialists from across Barwon Water and an independent consultant. The bench test included a series of 20 tests each consisting of three to five components. The products and suppliers were scored on their ability to complete each test as well as system performance and robustness.

Considered to be the largest GIS project on offer by Australian water authorities this year, the project is expected to run for 12 months. A significant component of the contract includes staff training on the purpose-built applications from Open Spatial – and the latest Autodesk and Oracle Spatial and Laser-Scan technologies. An integral part of the solution is Radius Topology from Laser-Scan. Radius, will allow Barwon Water to build business rules around spatial data to assure integrity and improve the data accuracy of spatial information.
