Barcelona to share geographic data with telecom company

Barcelona, Spain: Barcelona Provincial Council signed an agreement with Telefonica, Spanish telecommunication company, to share free digital geographic information of common interest and to optimise resources based on the data, stated a press release.

Under the agreement, the council will transfer the 1:1000 scale urban topographic maps of the municipalities with Telefonica.  On the other hand, Telefonica will share mapping details of their underground networks.

Both entities will exchange compatible formats that can be incorporated in their respective geographic information systems, which in the case of the Barcelona Provincial Council is the Municipal Land Information System (SITMUN).
