Manama, Bahrain, July 15, 2005: Interior ministry of Bahrain has won the special achievement in GIS award from ESRI.

Bahrain was chosen by the ESRI in San Diego out of organizations specializing in GIS from more than 80 countries at its annual ESRI International User Conference 2007. The award is offered by ESRI, for organizations that use GIS applications to serve the community and contribute to development.

The Interior Ministry earned the award for its efforts in the introduction of GIS and information technology in its work environment and the impact that this had on improving its performance levels. One of its main functions is the possibility to specify and update the ministry’s locations and linking them to documents, images and video recordings. The system also helps in the management of the ministry’s fleet and deciding upon the most convenient routes and timings for its movement.
