Bahrain completes satellite-based agro survey

Bahrain: The Directorate of GIS, Central Informatics Organisation (CIO), Kingdom of Bahrain carried out satellite imagery-based agricultural survey for the first time. It procured imageries from GeoEye which were processed by in-house experts. 
The survey determined 61216.250 acres green areas in the Kingdom which is equivalent of 61.216 square kilometres (about 8.1 percent of the area of the Kingdom of Bahrain). In addition, it determined 10922.365 acres agricultural crops area which is equivalent of 10.922 square kilometres (about 1.4 percent of the area of the Kingdom and 17.8 percent of the area of agricultural crops). 
The survey also identified 75 types of agricultural crops which include palm trees, tomato, barley and watercress and other plants.  as well as geographical maps of all agricultural classifications showing their areas.
