‘Australian Govt won’t axe climate change dept’

Merimbula, Australia: Australia’s Prime Minister, Julia Gillard ridiculed the opposition for hinting it might axe the Climate Change Department if it won the next election. She said it showed how serious the government really is about global warming.
Earlier, during a climate change forum in Merimbula, New South Wales, Australia, Gillard strongly expressed her seriousness about climate issue by saying that it would be better to spend some money on maps and people who could read them rather to discuss.
It is pertinent to mention here that recently Gillard’s opposition treasury spokesman Joe Hockey questioned about figures released by the Climate Change Department that suggested the government’s direct action plan would cost Australian households USD 720 a year.
