Australia: Australian Navy is mapping Papua New Guinea’s (PNG) seabed which aims to build ports there. For the last two weeks HMAS Leeuwin, a hydrographic ship, has been surveying Caution Bay near Port Moresby.

The bay will soon house an export facility as part of PNG’s biggest ever resource development, a USD 16 billion liquefied natural gas project. Lieutenant Commander Ian Jackson, Leeuwin’s senior surveyor, said they are mapping the seafloor so tankers can safely navigate the area.

The first shipment of gas out of Caution Bay is expected in 2014.
