Atkins undertakes hazard services analysis for Fukushima Daiichi plant

Japan: Atkins has won a contract by the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) to undertake fire hazard analysis services at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power station in Japan. Under the contract, Atkins will prepare a Fire Hazards Analysis for the entire Fukushima Daiichi site, which will involve a thorough review of plant documentation and on-site inspections to identify fire hazards, determine consequences in relation to site nuclear safety goals and radioactivity release to the environment, and provide recommendations for fire prevention, fire detection, fire suppression, and fire containment. Atkins’ GLASS (Graphical Logic Analysis Support Software) will supposedly help TEPCO make critical decisions about the safety of the plant by improving speed, accuracy and transparency.
