California: Apple has reportedly acquired two mapping companies, HopStop and Locationary. HopStop offers public transit data and Locationary is a user edited database of popular restaurants and tourist locations.
Apple Maps has been facing criticism for incomplete data for places of interest and lack of public transit data. The acquisition of these two companies is viewed as an effort to add complete functionality to Apple Maps 2.0 which is expected to be launched when iOS 7 will be released later this year. The companies have not confirmed the deal so far.
