US: The 2011 AP Stylebook included terms like end user, geolocation, geotagging, link shortener, stream and unfollow, according to a tweet by Associated Press. Finally, an end to the never-ending question when it comes to “geolocation:” to hyphenate or not to hyphenate?
Among the many new entries in the 2011 edition are cellphone and smartphone as single words, and email without the hyphen, AP’s Stylebook editors said in a chat held on Twitter. AP said it added 20 new social media terms to the book, including ‘link shortner’ as two words. AP editors wrote the definition for ‘end user’, “A phrase commonly referred to by technology developers when imagining the audience for an application, software or hardware.”
