AOL, Nokia and Sprint Nextel promote geography education

USA: AOL, Nokia and Sprint Nextel showed support for funding geography education in the USA by endorsing a resolution calling on Congress to “include authorisations and appropriations for geography education consistent with other core academic subjects for K-12, as part of a reauthorised Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA).”

The resolution developed by the Association of American Geographers (AAG) also supports geography programmes such as the Teaching Geography is Fundamental Act, and urges the Obama Administration to include geography education as part of its proposals for improving STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.

The three tech-related companies join the growing list of major private sector companies that value and support geography education. Other major corporations endorsing the AAG Resolution include Google, Toyota, and Esri. US Secretaries of State and Defense, many governors, major national organisations, and dozens of state geographic alliances and other groups have also endorsed the resolution.
