India: The Indian coal mining company Coal India will fit all its trucks with GPS tracking devices to put a check on pilferage. Coal Secretary Anil Swarup has said that already about 80% of the trucks have been GPS-mapped, while the rest will be covered in under one month. Coal India is undergoing a sweeping technological upgradation to increase its efficiency and output. The ugradation will be on the line of global mining practices, as followed in the US and Australia. This revamp is also important because the government is planning to open commercial coal mining to private players for the first time in over four decades.
