Al Ain to update survey maps and satellite geographic data

Al Ain, UAE, 19 June 2006: The Municipality of Al Ain has launched remote sensing and aerial surveys to update its satellite geographic data and survey maps of the eastern region of Abu Dhabi to help in the further development of the region. The official said it was a vital project that would update the base maps and other geographic data along with topographic and survey information that had been gathered by the Town Planning Department of Al Ain Municipality over the last 20 years.

Engineer Ahmad M. Al Sharif, Undersecretary of Al Ain Municipality and Agriculture Department, on Sunday signed an agreement for the execution of the project with the Rolta Middle East. The project, a municipality official said, would be supervised by the UK-based Infoterra Ltd., the geographic information product and services provider. The Survey Division of the UAE Armed Forces would also help in the execution of the project.
