AfricaGEO 2014 concludes in Cape Town

Cape Town: The 2nd AfricaGEO 2014 conference and exhibition was held at Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from 1st July to 3rd July 2014 and was well supported and participated by delegates from South Africa Geomatics Association, PLATO, SAGI, GISSA, the Hydrographic Society of South Africa, the Institute of Mining Surveyors of South Africa, the Association of Aircraft Survey Companies and the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform.

The conference with the Theme “Developing Geomatics for Africa” was attended by over 600 participants from 20 countries, and had presenters from various academic institutions, government agencies and the private industry covering various disciplines of Geomatics such as Surveying, Remote Sensing, Geo-Information Science, Land Tenure and Development and Planning. The keynote speeches were delivered by eminent personalities of the Geomatics industry including Prof. George Gartner, President, International Cartographic Association, Austria; Dr. Chen Jun, President of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, National Geomatics Centre of China; Prof Jeff McKenna, President of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo), Canada; Mr. Cyprian Selebalo, Land Advisor at UN Habitat, Kenya and Prof Chris Rizos, President of the International Association of Geodesy, Australia.

The exhibition had over 48 exhibitors displaying the state of art technology through their various products and services and included the sponsors of the conference Trimble/Optron, GEO Data Design, GeoSpace, Hexagon, Autobuild Africa and Southern Mapping.
