Abuja, Nigeria, December 05, 2007: African leaders have been urged to increase their efforts to expand space science programmes in a drive to meet its Millennium Development Goals. Speakers at the regional Space for Africa Conference said, practical applications of space technology can play a pivotal role in improving the lives of millions on the continent.
Satellite applications have been used in mapping and environmental monitoring across the globe. For Africa, this means benefiting in areas like disaster management, thematic mapping of the continent’s vast untapped natural resources, food security and disease control. African leaders have been called on to invest more on similar programmes to benefit the majority of its poor population.
