Australia: A project to map the typography of Tonga, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and Samoa to monitor sea level rise has begun.
Using laser equipment, a 3D map of the islands will be created showing ground elevation, vegetation, canopy height and building placement.
In the second phase of the project training will be given to locals to monitor the changes in sea level.
Nathan Quadros, technical advisor from the Cooperative Research Centre for Spatial Information said that training in IT and will allow locals to monitor changes in the environment.
