New Delhi, India: AECOM Technology Corp. partnered with the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), India, to develop a master plan for the sanitation system of Delhi. Under the contract, AECOM will use Bentley Systems’ SewerGEMS V8i Software to create hydraulic models of the sanitation systems for the city.
The fast growing population of Delhi, coupled with slow development in sewerage infrastructure, has posed a major threat to the city’s sanitation system, river water quality and health of the people in the area. Only about 55 percent of the population have access to a centralised sewerage system. To address this challenge, AECOM partnered with DJB to develop a holistic, integrated and sustainable sewerage master plan.
In an integrated approach to sewered areas, AECOM is conducting performance audits on 30 existing sewage treatment plants at 17 locations, along with hydraulic modelling of existing trunk sewers. As part of the master plan, AECOM is using Sanitary SewerGEMS V8i to connect the project team. To complete the hydraulic modelling, the team proposed that a wastewater management information system should be developed with an integrated enterprise GIS. Using SewerGEMS, the data will be consolidated into a single hydraulic model for verification and to identify problem areas.
