Abu Dhabi: The Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi has issued an order to strengthen the management of geospatial data in the Municipal System. This would have significant impact on the efforts to build and manage the Integrated Geodetic Positioning Systems.
The DMA is the supervisory and regulatory body of municipal work in Abu Dhabi. It is responsible for providing and managing and updating foundation maps for all areas in the territory. Currently, it is in the process of improving the necessary technological systems to build and manage the Integrated Geodetic Positioning Systems. It is also focusing on the maintenance of the topographic data and the geographic and thematic data produced by aerospace remote sensing. Abu Dhabi has shown concerns about the security of spatial data in the past also. Majid Ali Al Mansouri, Chairman of the DAM, has now issued an order to strengthen rules for all the spatial data including satellite mapping, surveying, producing and developing base maps and other services in the field of geospatial data. The order aims at developing an integrated spatial data infrastructure.
