3D GIS Model for flood management launched

Nigeria: The Federal Government has launched the National Digital Flood Model in 3D GIS following the flood threat in the country and the need to control the situation.

Laurentia Mallam, the Minister of Environment, commenting on the model said, "the model permits interaction between predicted hydro-meterorological data and earth surface conditions such as land-use and soil type to derive runoff which displays in 3- dimension GIS environment”.

National Digital Flood Model has been proposed as a new strategy for flood management in the nation. The satellite technology application developed by National Space Research and Development Agency would also be helpful in enhancing the digital flood platform
