UK – 1Spatial is pleased to announce their participation in the European Commission’s INSPIRE Conference in Maribor, Slovenia from 23rd – 25th June 2008.
The INSPIRE Conference, formerly the EC-GIS Conference, organised by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) provides a forum for sharing information and experiences related to the implementation of INSPIRE and the development of Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs) in general. INSPIRE Drafting Teams and Thematic Working Groups will be given the opportunity to report on the development of the INSPIRE Implementing Rules and attendees will be able to further their understanding of the challenges of implementation, such as costs and coordination across different levels of governance. The conference will also identify key issues and opportunities for European SDI projects.
The Drafting Team involved in Data Specifications has been looking into issues relating to data consistency for almost two years now and logical consistency is part of the mandated requirements around data quality in INSPIRE. As part of their presentation in the Industry Perspectives parallel session on Tuesday 24th June, 1Spatial will be building on the work done by the Data Specifications Drafting Team and proposing a rules-based approach to assessing geospatial data fitness for purpose, in the context of INSPIRE and in line with the activities of the Thematic Working Groups.
1Spatial’s CEO, Dr Michael Sanderson, will be presenting a paper entitled ‘Spatial data consistency to facilitate and drive INSPIRE’ that will discuss the importance of geospatial data consistency. The presentation will then discuss possible approaches for the quantitative assessment of data consistency and quality, which in the INSPIRE context means recording and measuring conformance to the Implementing Rules, based on given standards. Also addressing emerging trends in IT for web service delivery, the presentation will highlight examples of data quality assessment services, such as the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) OWS4-0 project.
