- Would you give some ideas regarding the function of Landmark Information Group?
Landmark Information Group, founded in 1995, is UK’s leading provider of environmental risk information services and solutions. It has close working relationships with data providers to offer current and historical environmental risk management information and desktop mapping solutions for the property industry.
- What are the basic objectives of your organisation?
The organisation was founded on the principle that combining and consolidating environmental data from a wide variety of sources would not only improve the availability of data and make it more convenient to access, it could also create new types of information services that is able to provide new solutions to old problems.
- Which sectors are providing you the major support in building such database?
Landmark is working closely with Ordnance Survey, Britain’s national mapping agency. It has unrivalled access to current and historical mapping. Data agreements with a number of statutory and non-statutory bodies include the Environmental Agencies, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, British Geological Survey, English Nature, The Centre for Ecology and Hydrology and many other data providers. This results the creation of an unrivalled source for the preparation of high quality reports on individual properties, commercial sites or areas of land anywhere in Britain.
- What kind of database you are using to offer services to the nation?
All the data held is constantly updated and cross-referenced to ensure its accuracy and reinforce the reliability on which our clients depend. Each item of data is geographically coded so that every report generated is enhanced by the ability to locate environmental features on both current and historical maps. Digital ordnance survey historical mapping, analysis of historical mapping and time layered mapping from the past to the present and from the present to the past are done by Landmark.
- Who are the main customers of this database in market?
Our first customers were Environmental Consultants and Geotechnical Engineers who observed that Landmark’s contribution in bringing a new dimension to desktop research. Though into a variety of businesses, Landmark still derives a large percentage of its revenues from these core customers.
- In respect of the growing demand for spatial database for environmental planning, what are the recent strategic achievements of your organisation?
In conjunction with RMSI, we are able to offer a comprehensive range of tailored GIS services. With the recent acquisition of Prodat Systems PLC, Landmark has been able to pursue an unrivalled source of large-scale current and historic digital maps together with high quality digital environmental risk information. We have a commitment to maintain the high levels of quality and service. This is reflected through our determination to provide a product that offers both quality and reliability at a competitive price.
