Organised in Orlando, Florida, USA from June 6-9, 2011, the Hexagon 2011 International Conference lived up to its reputation with more than 2,500 participants from 65 countries attending keynotes, sessions and training workshops. The conference brought together latest technologies and user communities from Leica Geosystems, Z/I Imaging, Intergraph, ERDAS as well as the Hexagon trio of Hexagon Engineering, Hexagon Polymers and Hexagon Metrology on a common platform. In accord with its theme of “Building a Smarter World,” the conference stressed on the approach that Hexagon works with to empower organisations in helping to build a smarter world through industry-specific technologies that aim at making processes and infrastructures better. The conference kicked-off on June 6 with a welcome reception where the attendees got a chance to explore the latest technologies and interact with industry experts. The next morning, Ola Rollen, President and CEO, Hexagon AB addressed the gathering as he discussed the importance of Hexagon technologies in understanding the face of the future. A series of sessions were also held during the conference in the Geosystems; Intergraph Process, Power & Marine; Intergraph Security, Government & Infrastructure and Metrology tracks.
The highlights of this session were the Leica Geosystems solutions that provide clients with enhanced spatial and related information in a better, timely and cost effective way, represented by three sub-tracks: High- Definition Surveying (HDS), 3D Laser Scanning; Geospatial Solutions; and Trends in Mapping & Positioning for Government and Industry.
Intergraph Process, Power & Marine (PP&M)
Intergraph PP&M offered an array of riveting sessions led by experts in the design, construction and operation of plants, ships and offshore facilities. It was an opportunity to learn how one can leverage Intergraph’s Smart- Plant® and SmartMarine® Enterprise engineering solutions to boost productivity.
Intergraph Security, Government & Infrastructure (SG&I)
Intergraph SG&I session offered the attendees a chance to listen to geospatial information experts and discuss various challenges facing the industry in the sub tracks of Defence & Intelligence; Geospatial and Imaging Technologies; Government & Transportation; Public Safety & Security; Utilities & Communications.
The session showcased latest trends in the metrology industry. Dimensional Measurement: Applications and Trends demonstrated the application of metrology systems and software to real-world manufacturing challenges while the PC-DMIS Power User sub-track taught users how to apply the solution’s advanced functionality tools. The conference concluded with an interesting panel discussion on emerging markets with the heads of Hexagon South America, India and China as panelists.
