The Bentley Conference which is an annual event opened with keynote address by Tony Flynn, the Chief Marketing Officer of Bentley.
He talked about the human resource development and Bentley’s initiative both through class room teaching and online distant education programme. His talk was followed by Greg Bentley, who said, “First, I want to thank all users who attended the BE Conference in record numbers, especially given that their professions are busier than ever before.” He invited the participants of the Bentley Conference to expand and sharpen their knowledge and skills through this conference which provides learning opportunities. Greg informed audience about the turnover of Bentley for the year 2005 which has crossed US$ 336 million with a profit of over US$ 40 million of which more than two-third of the revenue had come from outside United States. GeoSpatial revenue contributed about 20% to the total Bentley turnover. He highlighted the acquisitions of Cook Hulbert, STAAD, RAM International, CAD Script, Map Script and GEF-RIS AG. Another element was the inclusion of ProjectWise in the new MS SharePoint and agreement with SAP on their new product mySAP for Bentley product support.
In the inaugural session Bhupinder Singh, Vice President, Bentley Systems, released the commercial version of MicroStation V8 XM Edition which is available to Bentley SELECT subscribers for download from SELECT Services Online.
On the release CEO Greg Bentley commented, “MicroStation V8 XM hits the mark! It brings immediate project throughput improvement without introducing the pain and delays that so often accompany substantial advances in products. Adopters of V8 XM can increase their contributions to the many distributed enterprises using earlier versions of MicroStation or any version of AutoCAD.”
During the conference enhanced SELECT subscription program was previewed. The program, which will be available September 1, 2006, provides three new offerings-nine in total-exclusively to SELECT subscribers. It offers organizations comprehensive investment protection for Bentley software, team productivity, and engineering information. The new SELECT offerings are: an annual license exchange that enables users to rebalance their technology portfolio for optimum productivity. OnDemand eLear-ning resources to improve user performance, productivity, and a ProjectWise user subscription to help extend the reach of content across a distributed enterprise.
2006 BE Awards
The winners were announced during a dinner and ceremony hosted by Peter Sagal of the National Public Radio program “Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!,” In total, twenty-nine projects received BE Awards during the Conference at Charlotte which had 260 award nominees. In addition, a BE Award was presented for Lifetime Achievement to Jim Fisher – Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. In the academic portion of the program, Educator of the Year award went to Dr. Andreas Asperl – Vienna University of Technology. Out of the eight awards in the Geospatial category, the Geospatial Public Works award was given to Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran for their ‘Interlinking of Water Works in Mumbai Metropolitan Area’ project. The attendees at the conference were from architecture, build designs, engineering consultants, facility owner-operators, utility firms. There were few representations from federal government, defense contractors and local government also.
