Assessment on the capabilities of a digital photogrammetric system for aerial and medical applications

ABSTRACT
At present, there are many digital photogrammetric systems that are available in the market. In general, every system claims that they can be used for variety of applications and fields. In photogrammetry, the digital photogrammetric system can be used for aerial and close range photogrammetry applications. The end product can be obtained within short period of time. In this paper, a digital photogrammetric system was used to assess it for aerial and medical applications. For aerial application, the digital photogrammetric system was used to process digital metric and non-metric imageries to produce orthophoto. For medical application, close range photogrammetric technique was used. The digital photogrammetric system was used to process digital imagery of human face and assess it. The results showed that the digital photogrammetric system is capable of processing both type of imageries. For aerial application, there is no doubt that the digital photogrammetric system can be fully utilized and accuracy of sub-centimeter can be achieved. For medical photogrammetry, the digital photogrammetric system is capable of producing an accuracy of less than 1mm and it can be accepted by the surgeon.
